QUALIFICATIONS:         A valid teaching certificate, or a substitute teacher’s certificate; personal and       professional qualities necessary for teaching and influencing students.  

  1. Apply for Substitute Certification: If you haven't already obtained substitute certification, you can apply through the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE). https://dese.mo.gov/educator-quality/certification/checklist-substitute-teachers
  2. Substitute Test: If you haven't completed a minimum of 36 college semester hours, you may need to take the substitute test. You can find more details and access the test through Frontline Education.  https://www.frontlineeducation.com/substitute-teacher-training/
  3. Background Check: As part of the application process, you'll need to complete a background check. Use the code 0497 to initiate the background check process through the Missouri Automated Criminal History Site (MACHS).
